Becoming a Youth Ambassador
Youth Ambassadors

Are you Interested?

Become a leader in local schools and your community as a Youth Ambassador!

The Safe Harbour Youth Ambassador Diversity Program is a chance for YOU! as a high school student in Grade 10, 11 or 12 to be trained to become an enthusiastic role model for exploring differences, demonstrating respect to others, and standing up for diversity.

As part of a dynamic Youth Ambassador team, you will lead fun, interactive workshops for children in Grades 4 to 6. The workshop activities celebrate everyone’s uniqueness, create a sense of belonging, and make sure every single person is included and feels safe.

“Focus our hearts, minds, and actions on respecting people’s differences and including everyone.”

Youth Ambassador LogoThe workshops, called Children Safe Harbour Workshops, focus on the different ways that youth can speak out against discrimination and stand up for anyone who is being treated unkindly or unfairly. Children will learn from YOU about ways to find a ‘Safe Harbour’ or a caring adult if faced with a tough situation. As a Youth Ambassador, you and the Diversity Stars whom you train will create more positive, safer environments for everyone in your school and in your community.

Just imagine. YOU will be part of a growing network of Youth Ambassadors all across BC who are giving back to their communities, making them more welcoming environments for diversity!

Some of the benefits to you include:

  • skill-building and free leadership training
  • great for your resumé and potential to access future jobs
  • great for scholarship and award applications
  • possibility to use as community hours for graduation portfolio
  • possibility to use as course credit for CAPP 10, Family Studies, or Social Justice 12
  • great chance to make friends outside of the classroom and become a mentor
  • build your own awareness and knowledge of diversity issues
  • being a positive role model for others!

Build your network of friends and improve your public speaking and group leadership skills, while learning about diversity by joining the program in your community. Your experiences as a Youth Ambassador will enhance your future opportunities as you build your resumé and apply for jobs, post-secondary schools, and scholarships. Besides, it’s fun!
Challenge your Student Councils to take on Youth Ambassador! Ask them to look at who is not represented on the Council and invite those who are missing to take part. Ask your teacher, youth leader, or other adults in your life to get on board with the program!
